“Driven” by a common love for motorsport and a combination of pizza, sausage baps, petrol fumes and good humour, meet the GO4IT Racing team:
Martin Tolley (Principal Driver & Team Owner):
Martin has been competing in the championship since 2009, achieving several wins and podium finishes; recently winning the Masters Championship and securing fourth overall in the standings from over one-hundred drivers!
He is supported by Darren, Paul, Alex, Jack and Jeremy, a steadfast crew of engineers who love Motorsport and keep both him and his #23 racing machine performing at its peak. Martin has also worked closely with Rob Boston, who in the early years was key to developing race craft alongside providing technical guidance and support. Creative Touch Design have once again agreed to be the key sponsor for Martin this year, whose support is greatly appreciated along with Pollock Lifts, MX5 City, Teng Tools, ASJ Facilities Management, Man Commercial, Enviro-Strip (GB) Ltd and John Gillespie Contractors Ltd.
Steve Foden (Driver):
Steve is 25 years old from Altrincham, Cheshire and competed last year as a complete novice in the BRSCC MX5 championship with his father Ian providing support etc. He works as a QA technologist. He has always been interested in cars and just completed the full restoration of a Jaguar E Type to concours standard which he drove to Le Mans classic in 2016, this sparked a desire to go racing.
Despite having no previous karting or racing experience at all, Steve who is sponsored by ROCK OIL, made rapid progress last year, normally qualifying in the A group and achieving several B group podiums He achieved a respectable 24th place finish in the standings despite having his car written off in the first race of the last race weekend whilst in 6th place out of 71 cars.
His target next season, with the support of Go4it racing and tuition from Rob Boston, is to firmly establish himself at the top of the A group and achieve a top ten finish. A completely new MX5 racecar is currently being built for this mission, plus he has a back up car built by his father and himself using their newly acquired MX5 knowledge and racing experience from 2017.
Jack Warry (Driver & Team Mechanic):
Jack initially joined the team as an “arrive and drive” customer, hiring one of the team’s racing machines for the 2016 season. Incredibly he secured a class victory in his first ever race and has since continued to achieve a string of class podiums. Although relatively new to racing, he is a quick study of a car’s behaviour and a full-time professional mechanic – making him indispensable to the team as a supporting team member whenever he’s not in the hot seat!
Alex Soar (Crew Chief):
Alex raced in the 2015 season and has used that experience to work closely with the team ever since. As a professional IT Analyst, his logical and analytical nature combined with previous race-support experience in Lotus Cup, Britcar and Classics, has developed into his coordinating the team at race events. While filling an electronics role, he openly recognises the wealth of specific experience and skills in the other team members, applying their strengths accordingly.
Jeremy “Jez” Eaton (Veteran Race Mechanic):
Jez joined the team in 2010 providing track-side support and has built up vast knowledge in the field of MX5 racing. As a professional engineer he is quick to diagnose any fault with a suitable solution and brings a calm, composed yet good natured character to the team – as such he is often consulted for advice and is particularly adept at mentoring new drivers in the team.
Darren Peck (Veteran Race Mechanic):
Darren started racing with Martin from the moment he turned the first wheel back on 2009. His knowledge of MX5 race cars is arguably second to none and is a highly dependable character, providing a “safe pair of hands” alongside an unflappable yet gentle character.
Paul McCabe (Race Mechanic):
As a full time engineer, he brings invaluable engineering expertise to the team.
